Maine has a variety of Cosmetology or Beauty Schools throughout the state. The State of Maine Board of Cosmetology requires 1500 hours of study to be a cosmetologist. At 1500 hours, Maine has one of the highest licensing requirements in the united states. For this reason, many people who study in Maine are able to pass the licensing exam in most states.

There are only a few accredited schools of cosmetology in the state. They are:

Spa Tech Institute, School of Cosmetology, formerly Headhunter School of Hair Design (A privately owned school focusing on top quality in the beauty, spa and wellness industries, with additional locations in Massachusetts. Located in Portland, ME)

Pierre's School of Cosmetology (Owned and operated by Regis Hair, a large multinational corporation that owns salons, product development companies and schools throughout the country. Located in Sanford, Portland, Bangor, Waterville and Caribou, ME)

Bernard's School of Cosmetology, sorry, no website available (A privately owned school with one location in Lewiston, ME)

There are other non-accredited schools in the state of Maine. These schools offer programs but since they are not accredited, they do not offer financial aid to their students. Additionally, without accreditation the quality of the school is probably not as good as the accredited schools.
