To be a cosmetology teacher in the state of Maine requires an additional 1000 hours of study. The only accredited schools offering teacher training in Maine are Spa Tech Institute in Portland, ME and Pierre's at some of its locations. To become an aesthetics teacher in Maine requires the same license as a cosmetology teacher. This has greatly restricted the number of qualified aesthetics teachers in the state of Maine. There has been a continual push to remedy this issue but the process is low on the state board of cosmetology priority list.
